Big blind ante
In tournaments using this format, a single ante is posted by the player in the big blind instead of every player anteing each hand, as cardroom rules for the format set it out.

With blinds of 500/1,000, that player puts up 1,000 as the blind and 1,000 as the ante; the ante is dead and goes straight into the pot, while the blind stays live for pre-flop betting. A short stack pays the blind first, then the ante, and can still win the whole ante. The ante becomes a per-round charge rather than a per-hand one.
